Spiritual Eyes

The Eyes of The Spirit Part 1
By Cathryn Ndyabagye

Have you ever wondered why William Shakespir said, "Yours eyes are the window to your soul?"

There is great truth in this!

The bible sheds light on this truth in scriptures...

Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

Luke 11:33-36 "No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness. Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, as when a lamp with its rays gives you light.”

1 John 2:16
For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world.

We live in Christ, and He puts our Spirit in us when we were born. Then, after we get saved, and are filled with the Holy Spirit. He makes us the temple of the Holy Spirit. Our spirit is seen in our eyes by others, just as we see spirits in others eyes. That is called discernment. Good, and bad we can see with our spiritual eyes.

Psalm 101:3
I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.

Matthew 7:3
Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

Matthew 5:28
But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Prov. 27:20 Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied, and never satisfied are the eyes of man.

Job 31:1 I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I gaze at a virgin?

2 Peter 2:14 They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!

So you see that we should be aware of things around us and guard our hearts and eyes from sin.

Looking Through Our Spritual Eyes

We need to really experience God in the Spiritual realm of The Holy Spirit. See with our spiritual eyes.

1 Corin. 2:14

But people who aren't spiritual can't receive these truths from God's Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can't understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.

Mark 8:18 Do you have eyes, but fail to see? Do you have ears, but fail to hear? Don't you remember?

When you really know Jesus and are filled with His Spirit. When you really know Jesus, when you listen and see by the Spirit of God, then you can walk guided by Him and overcome anything. Our victory promised to the righteous!

Eyes are the window to the soul. I find its orgin in the bible 58 to 68 A.D. Matthew 6 22-23.

We live in a world with lots of Spiritual light and darkness around us.
Why do we fear when we have control of what we should see or not?

Read this scripture and look closely what it says about the blind seeing. God wants to not only heal the blind eyes physically but also spiritually.

Luke 4:18
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,

Our Spiritual eyes are lead by God's Spirit.
The bible says the Holy Spirit is our teacher and shows us all things.

That means he helps us see right from wrong, good spirits and bad.

Not to judge people, but to help us learn. We must pray for those spiritual blind.
We should always love people and hate sin.

God has to open their eyes. Our prayers go to God for them. Then God opens their eyes when they get saved.

Matthew 13:15 says, For this people's heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.’

See how He refers to hearing and seeing? He's speaking about our spiritual growth. How much do we listen to God and see what God is trying to help us grow in?

God knows we make mistakes in life. What he focuses on is are we repenting and learning from it? Are our eyes opened to God and are we seeing with our spiritual eyes. It keeps us out of trouble if we keep our eyes on God.

1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

So God does not hold things against us when we repent. He Sees our motives and our heart.

2 chron. 16:9
For the eyes of the LORD roam throughout the earth to show himself strong for those who are wholeheartedly devoted to him. You have been foolish in this matter. Therefore, you will have wars from now on."

So God keeps track of us all. He Sees everything and so should we in the Spirit.
No I'm not meaning we know everything. I'm meaning ask God to show what is before us. To learn from the Holy Spirit. He will show us all.

Prov.15:3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.

Prov 16:2 All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit.

Our goal should be, to pay more attention to our eyes and how we use them for God.

What do we look at? The worldly things?or the righteousness of God? God wants us to choose wisely.

The kingdom of God should be our first aim. Seek first the kingdom of God. We have to seek God first in everything we do. By showing ourselves faithful to Him, he gives us what we need.

Prov. 16:1-33 The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit. Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble. Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished.

Psalm 101:1-8 A Psalm of David. I will sing of steadfast love and justice; to you, O Lord, I will make music. I will ponder the way that is blameless. Oh when will you come to me? I will walk with integrity of heart within my house; I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall be far from me; I will know nothing of evil. Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure.

Psalm 19:8 The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;

I hope this lesson was a help and blessing to you. Never stop trusting in God. Keep looking up to the Savior and He will see you through!
